DC Motors- Build A Wind Generator

DC Motors- How To Build A Homemade Wind Generator

For most people just starting out with learning to build a wind generator finding the proper DC motor can be rather difficult.

dc motor- Build a Wind generator

This is a simple DC motor capable of generating lots of electrical power for your home. It is commonly used as a replacement motor for a treadmill, and comes in many sizes. For the most part you will want to find one that is in the 2 horsepower range or so.

They are quite heavy at about 10 pounds, and built very sturdy. You really want a good quality motor because it will be mostly out in the elements. The simple wind generator plans show how to make a nice body to cover the wind generator DC motor so that it is out of the worst of the weather.

You will notice that the shaft protrudes from the body of the motor and it has a threaded end on it too. This is necessary so that the hub, which holds the wind generator blades can be easily mounted to it. This is the part that actually produces the power, with the blades converting the wind power into motion that then generates the electrical current.

Have a look at this interesting video showing how the wind generator produces electricity with the DC Motor...

Wiring the DC motor is not that difficult as the diagram shows. There are 2 wires already attached to the motor for easy installation. There is a red wire and a black wire, one is negative and one is positive and they are hooked up to your battery bank. A simple procedure that requires hardly any tools. Remember that you will need an inline diode to connect to one of these wires to make sure that electricity will only travel one way- when you build a wind generator you want it to send power to the batteries.

With the diode attached it will do only that, instead of the battery power being drained back to the DC motor, which is not what we want.

The diode can easily be wired in at the battery box for convenience and safety reasons. It is just a whole lot easier to do it this way.

Your DC motor is really the power house of the whole renewable energy setup, but the battery system is the heart of the matter. Without adequate storage of the energy produced it will be very difficult to run your home with DC power.

Of course an inverter is added to the system after the batteries in order to get regular household AC power to your regular appliances.

The DC motor you use when you build a wind generator is very easy to find as well. The wind generator plans shows many locations you can get one, and the best part is they are shipped anywhere in the world in only a few days time.

Are you ready to get started building your own wind generator? Finding the DC motor is the first step in the process, and then use the detailed plans to make your own blades, find batteries and even find a tower for free.

It really is not that difficult. Our family has built 4 wind generators now and each one has been an interesting project.
